Gongju was the capital of Baekje from 475 to 538. The city is abundant with historic relics, still shows the glimpse of Baekje culture. Among them are Group of Ancient in Toms Songsan-ri including Tomb of king Muryeong-wang, and Gongsanseong fortress. Numerous famed temples around also depicts the essence of Buddhist culture.

Tomb of King Muryeong-wang
The tombs of the kings and royal family during the period when Ungjin was the capital of Baekje Dynasty are located in the Group of Ancient in Tombs of Songsan-ri. Seven tombs including that of King Muryeong are located here. The tomb of King Muryeong-wang was accidentally discovered during water drainage work. As many as 17 objects in 12 categories are designated as national treasures.
Gongju National Museum
The museum's predecessor was the Gongju Historic Sites Preservation Association, established in 1935. The discovery of the Tomb of King Muryeong-wang in 1971 was a turning-point for the association. It was transformed into a museum and moved to a new building in Ungjin-dong. The museum has the exhibition halls of the Tomb of King Muryeong, Ungjin culture, and a special display, among others.
Gapsa Temple
Gapsa Temple is located under Yeoncheon Peak of Mt. Gyeryongsan in Jungjang-ri Gyeryong-myeon, Gongju and is registered as Malsa temple under Magoksa temple in the sixth parish of Jogey Order of Korean Buddhism. It is a leading temple in the Mt. Gyeryongsan area having Naewonam, Sinheungam, Daeseongam and Daejaam as the affiliated temples.
